Private Yoga and Meditation According to Your Needs

Yoga and Ayurveda, Sister Sciences

Ayurveda and yoga are sister sciences born from the philosophical and spiritual traditions of India. One of the major philosophical foundations for both Ayurveda and yoga is Samkhya philosophy. This is one of the reasons why both sciences are so closely related in their concepts and complement each other so well. Yoga means “union” in the sense of union with the Divine. In this sense, yoga is the path and goal of all human existence, that is, the realization of the Self as your true, inner nature. Ayurveda means "Science of Life," and it provides the necessary means to achieve the ultimate goal of yoga by keeping your body balanced and in harmony with your environment, and to promote a long, healthy life. As a matter of fact, Ayurveda and yoga go hand in hand.

Join the Asheville Yoga Community with Ayurvedic Yoga

According to Ayurveda and its individualized and holistic approach to health, not all forms of yoga (or exercise) are appropriate for all constitutions. Vata can get easily aggravated with excessive and rapid forms of yoga or exercise (although vata people love these); and pitta by excessively warming and energizing forms that would certainly benefit kapha constitutions.

We can tailor a yoga regime specific to your constitutional needs or health issues, or help you make adjustments to your current yoga practice, regardless of your level or skill.

Private meditation and pranayama (breathing techniques) are also available, as well as yoga therapy sessions to help you with any health issues.

Ayurveda and Yoga in the West

The various traditional yoga paths are not mutually exclusive, they are actually interconnected, but they may emphasize different aspects of yoga and may differ in certain techniques. Nowadays, so many new "schools" of yoga have emerged in the West and integrated factors that were never part of traditional yoga, that the need for an individualized approach to yoga --based on the ancient principles of yoga and Ayurveda -- has become evident to prevent health imbalances in the long run.

Contact us and discover the best approach to your individual yoga practice, according to your specific needs and/or health issues, and understand why certain poses may not be appropriate for you, from an Ayurvedic viewpoint. We have been serving the Asheville yoga community since 2001.
